What makes us human? Open questions of an anthropological character form the core of the numerous monkey paintings.

Is man an animal, differing only in degree from his closest relative, the chimpanzee? And if not, what does our humanity make of us, how can we deal with it responsibly?

The Nature and Culture series is characterized by contrasts. Both in conceptual terms, through the focus on such a dualism - and in visual, artistic terms: light and shadow alternate, and the light bulb - an emblem of man's technological achievements, finds its way into "nature". The reading monkey finally dissolves every dualism into nothingness and provocatively points to the non-existent separation of nature and culture - a dualism which human binary thinking has been obsessed with since the philosopher Descartes.

Die Serie Natur und Kultur zeichnet sich durch Kontraste aus. Sowohl in konzeptioneller Hinsicht durch den Fokus auf einen solchen Dualismus - als auch in visueller, künstlerischer Hinsicht: Licht und Schatten wechseln sich ab, und die Glühbirne - ein Emblem der technologischen Errungenschaften des Menschen, findet einzug in die “Natur”. Der lesende Affe löst letztendlich jeden Dualismus im Nichts auf und weist provokant auf die inexistente Trennung von Natur und Kultur hin - ein Dualismus, dem sich das menschliche binäre Denken seit dem Philosophen Descartes zwanghaft hingibt.
